As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the role of mothers in our lives and society. Mothers, the very essence of love and sacrifice, are universally celebrated, yet their stories, struggles, and victories are as diverse as the cultures they come from.

Mothers are known for their selfless sacrifices. They are the embodiment of unconditional love, often putting their children’s needs before their own. This trait is deeply ingrained in our culture, particularly here in the Philippines. But why do mothers sacrifice so much? It’s a unique combination of love, instinct, and the desire to provide their children with better opportunities than they had.
However, it’s important to remember that parenthood should not be a burden solely borne by mothers. The call for equality between mothers and fathers is louder than ever. As society evolves, we see more fathers stepping up, sharing responsibilities, and challenging traditional parenting roles.
Postpartum depression is a reality many new mothers face. It’s a complex mix of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that occur after giving birth. Understanding and support from partners, families, and healthcare providers are crucial in managing this condition.
Mothers, by nature, are nurturers. They provide us with the emotional, social, and physical nurturing that is crucial to our development. The bond between a mother and her child is profound and transformative. This bond is something I’ve personally experienced with my daughter, Ava. Her smile, her breath, and her mere existence bring an inexplicable completeness to my life.
“Motherhood is not always easy, but it is immensely fulfilling. The joy and completeness a child brings into your life are indescribable. To all mothers out there, remember, you’re doing great. Happy Mother’s Day!”

Before I had Ava, I never thought I would want a child. I was concerned about the expenses, the time it would consume, and the changes it would bring. But the moment I became a mother, everything changed. The joy of being a mother and the unique sense of completeness it brings is hard to explain. It’s true, there are ups and downs, and there are times when I’m engrossed in work, strategizing, and planning, but then Ava demands my attention, shutting off my laptop or phone just so I can look at her. That’s when I realize how important my attention is to her. No amount of gifts or toys in the world can replace the warmth of a smile, a conversation, or a hug.
Sadly, not all mothers are able to provide the nurturing care their children need. Factors such as mental health issues, societal pressures, or lack of support can lead to maternal neglect. It’s a painful reality that reminds us of the importance of support systems and mental health resources for mothers.
Being maternal goes beyond giving birth. It encompasses the ability to love, nurture, and care. It’s about being there for someone, providing emotional support, and guiding them through life.
Motherhood is not always easy, but it is immensely fulfilling. The timing for me to become a mother was right. To all the mothers out there, I salute you. You’re doing a great job. Do not compare yourself to others; we all have our fair share of challenges. Happy Mother’s Day!
